Today's high is a scorching 93 here in sunny Jacksonville. It's October 9th, and it's 93. How ridiculous is that?!? On the one hand, I'm still loving my flipflops and shorts, and Nathan only has two pairs of pants to his name in the next size up, so the heat is fabulous. On the other hand, I'm not loving my electric bill so much with the A/C running constantly. And eventually, even here, it does have to get cold, right?

I dropped by the local library on my way home from Wal-Mart so that I could find something better to do with my free time. This growing Solitaire obsession is fine and all, but I need to do something more productive with Nathan's nap times. I miss our great big Brookline libraries, with one in walking distance and another in easy driving distance. That being said, I think I've found enough to keep me busy for the next long while. If anyone has any recent-favorite reading suggestions, I'm looking for some new things to read. There are only so many times you can read Jane Austen or Pride and Prejudice.

I just finished Wuthering Heights, but that too is one that you have probably read a million times. I have to admit, I have a little guilty pleasure right now with reading young adult fiction novels. I am totally addicted to the Stephanie Meyer books, Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. I know it sounds hokey to read about vampires, but it is a fun romance, thriller story. I also just finished These is my words by Nancy Turner and The secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Both good reads that we read for book club. Anyway, good luck and let me know if you find any good ones.

Man, 93 degrees? That sounds wonderful! I haven't seen the sun in a couple of weeks... You should go to the beach and enjoy it! (Easy for me to say...) As for books, I need ideas too. So I think we should start exchanging book ideas. I'm headed to the library tomorrow, so I'll look for some good ideas. Love you!

Brandon and I listened to Imperium, by Robert Harris, on our way to Missouri, and we loved it. He also wrote another book, Pompeii, about Roman times, and they're both great historical fiction, with a heavy emphasis on the history. If you like historical fiction, try any Ernest Rutherfurd books. They're good, too. In the realm of young adult fantasy fiction (which I admit that I enjoy too), try Fablehaven and The Rise of the Evening Star. Good luck with the reading!

Oh, and if you like historical fiction with strong, humorous female characters, try Judith Merkle Riley. She's one of my favorite guilty pleasures authors.
