The Onlsow County Fair

A couple of weeks ago, we received a 30-page booklet about the opcoming County Fair. I didn't immediately throw it away because I was curious as to what could possible take thirty pages of description regarding a county fair. I had images of amusement rides, lots of fried foods, maybe a bearded lady, washed-up country singers, etc. So, I sat down to read during my lunch and discover thirty pages of rules and lists about entering livestock, live plants, clothing, field crops, eggs, cured hams, honey, and everything else you could possible think of entering in a county fair. Did you know there were five varieties of watermelons, three varieties of turnips, ten varieties of grapes, rules regarding canned goods, and more kinds of preserves, jams, conserves, marmalades, butters, and jellies that you could shake a stick at? This certainly isn't Norfolk County in Massachusetts. One day, maybe I'll enter salsa or an angel food cake or brownies or potted impatiens or crocheting or a stuffed dressed doll. Onslow County is awesome!

Good old Onslow county! That is so cool! That sounds so cozy. Who knows, maybe in 20 years you'll have award winning pickles in the fair. . .
